screensavers etc
« on: January 22, 2010, 07:58:49 AM »
Hi folks! Just upgraded to 4 it looks good but i cannot get any screensavers.  Also, how do I rearrange the icons on the panel.  Sometimes when I restart or shut down the pc hangs for some time - any thoughts?

DonaldM,

On the screensaver, right click on the screen and select Folder View Settins... it's under Appearance

I too would like to rearrange the icons.  Can add, but not move as in 3.5...

putz
If it jams, force it.... if it breaks, ... it needed to be replaced anyway!!

right click the task bar/ unlock widgets /right click task bar again / Panel Options / Panel settings.   drag and drop icons to desired locations.

EDIT: Sometimes seems to be a bit flaky, when you click the icon you want to move it isn't selected (goes back to settings dialogue), I found I had to hover over the little cross for about 5 seconds to get it to work  ???

Hi Putz

There is nothing to direct me to screensavers in appearance just desktop theme, desktop activity and wallpaper

Watch some of those videos

- screensavers - search and install via synaptic
- hanging - press ESC on the keyboard while shutting down / booting to go to verbose mode and observe. Look when its happening. Report back.

Seems like a lot of people are "still learnin' KDE4", and I thought it was just me bein' stooopiiid :D :D

I just found out how to resize widgets like the weather and clock - you have to left click and hold the little [tv] style icon in the popup widget dialogue - then drag the widget to size.

Everybody except me probably already knew that  :-[ :D

It's in K System Settings (the crossed tools icon) >Look & Feel >Desktop >Desktop Effects/Multiple Desktops/Screen Edges/Screensaver/Launch Feedback

When it hangs up the last line reads "shutting down system logger."

OK so You have

shutting down system logger                                           [  OK  ]

right? then it hangs... and what is the next thing that comes up? Coz system logger is OK... it works with something after it...

That is exactly it - nothing happens after that.

Oh so its not hanging for a several seconds and then rebooting but its hanging / freezing after the system logger shutdown? Wonder what would be next. Acpi maybe? Can you take a look when its not freezing and try to see what is next?

What kernel do You use? Type in "uname -a" in konsole (skip the "") and press enter and then copy / paste the output here...
