I'm trying to configure TYPO3 but keep getting the message "can't create database".
Hardware is a Fujitsu Siemens E series Lifebook laptop running PCLOS 2009.
I installed Apache server, MySQL and PHP with the Task-Lamp tool in Synaptic.
I downloaded TYPO3 and 'untarred' it into my /home/ directory then transferred the files to /var/www/html/TYPO3. (FYI - "localhost" address in a Web browser points to /var/www/html/)
I created ENABLE_INSTALL_TOOL in /typo3conf/ to enable the configuration tool, pointed the browser to http://localhost/TYPO3
and the configuration screen opened correctly in 1-2-3 mode.
Everytime I confirmed the input data at step 1 (by clicking on the "write config.php" button, I got the error "no database selected".
So, I switched out of 1-2-3 mode to text mode and began entering the user data into "Basic config". When I tried to select a database, I see there are none listed (there ARE several MySQL databases). In the 'list box' is only the text "information_schema" appears - but no databases.
If I try to create a database and then try to write the config.php file, I get the error "can't create database".
I think the script has the wrong path when looking for the databases - the fact that none appear in the database 'Select' box and the 'Create database' command fails make me suspect the path.
Would be grateful for any suggestions that might fix this.
