HP F4280 is a pain!
« on: January 22, 2010, 06:30:21 AM »
This printer was troublesome setting up last year due to my inexperience. Now I've changed to KDE4 I'm having a strange problem with it. It will start a print job and after a few minutes printing will just stop. The only way I can cajole it back into life is to delete it in Control Centre, reboot my pc then reinstall it and get another 5 minutes!

In Control Centre-hardware-auto detect hardware it is nowhere to be seen. But if I select Configure a Printer, then PCLOS finds it and sets it up. Sometimes when I reboot I get a window saying a new printer has been found do I want to configure it? If I click yes it will set it up again. The other option is to run hp-setup in a console. At one point a box asked if Duplex was installed, as I couldn't find it I clicked no. What is Duplex? I can't see anything in Synaptic.

Is there anything I can do to make it more reliable? Any packages etc? Simple print jobs can take over an hour of endless fiddling and messing about.

Thanks.
