Be sure you are fully updated and then run getopenoffice. You'll find it in the menu in system.

Instructions for the use of and troubleshooting tips for this utility are here.

If you are already used to OpenOffice then be warned: the version supplied in the repo is not the standard OOo but a version called GO-OO which has been modified according to the modifiers" to make it more like MSOffice".   I found that my old OOo calc files required a lot of modification to run properly in this version and went back to directly installing the "vanilla" version from the OOo site.  Of course if you run into trouble you won't get much help from these pages, but it's always worked perfectly well for me!  Many other distros also use GO-OO.

Apart from this PCLinuxOS is a fine distro.

How does one become a hero?  By asking a lot of dumb questions apparently! I have three computers of various ages, the most powerful is a Dell Netbook 10v; each has 2 or 3 versions of PCLOS of various vintages.  Location, St John's, Newfoundland.

Staying on the same topic, can someone say is there any alternate methods of downloading Ooo?
I always get "Connection time out" and the whole bandwidth is just idle. What is wrong with the nluug server?

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Tommylee567,
Have you read through this thread? I believe you'll find a solution there.

No Hope, tried this

Using Synaptic: added new server to the list

ftp://ftp.nl.freebsd.org/pub/os/Linux/distr/texstar/openoffice/apt/
pclinuxos/2009
openoffice

now i have that in Synaptic. Which that too selects 51 packages for en-US
select task-openoffice3-en-US and it installs automatically

Yes, task-openoffice is what you need to install.
