Install PCLOS on second hard drive (SOLVED)
« on: February 16, 2010, 12:33:21 PM »
I've just installed a second hard drive (Seagate 400g SATA), in my system in anticipation of the new ISO coming up.  My primary hard drive boots vista, pclos, and a few other testing partitions with PCLOS grub controlling the booting.  I would like to devote the new drive fully to PCLOS 2010 when it is released.  I have attempted to install the old version a few times to the new drive to familiarize myself and pave the way, but am running into booting problems in doing so. Could anybody point me to a walkthrough or give me a hand with where to install grub etc on the new drive (mbr, root partition) and if there is a different way of chainloading when a second drive is involved. Thanks guys.

I like to create a  /root partition of 15-20 gigs, a /home of at least 30 gig, with the swap of twice the ram, here, or at the end of the drive. Then I make the rest of the drive for data which both hard drives can share.Do the install of 2010 as usual, and when reaching the bootloader put it on the FIRST drive. It will then see all the operating systems on both drives, making the 2010 the default. If you wish you can make another the default OS by clicking modify, arrow down to your choice and click finish. At that point you will have to reboot, and will be prompted to take the disk out before the reboot. Upon reboot the older PCLOS will have a slighly different name with the new given name of the release. All this assumes that things have not changed upon the new release, although I think not as the same grub is being used.

Thanks so much Duvid. Hours of googling and forum scanning. I kept getting grub errors in my attempts at chainloading the second drive.  I knew I should have ask here first. Something so simple. Yes, installed the pclos grub to the original drive and it did indeed pick everything else up including the second drive. Thanks again.
