KDE 4 ISO
« on: January 15, 2010, 11:33:58 AM »
Just wondering when a KDE 4 ISO may be ready. I'm very impressed with some things in KDE 4, but I can't quite get a usable system when installing KDE 3 ISO and then upgrading to 4. For some reason after updates it's unusable.

Thanks!!!!!!

Hi and welcome, jdpower!

You know, it's always the same - we're all drooling for the new ISO with KDE4 (and Speedboot and the new Xorg and...). So I could tell you what is bound to come - it's ready when it's ready, as usual. No timetable set. Tex and the devs are packaging, testing, getting everything nice and shiny.

The best for you would be what I'm also doing - watching the progress on Twitter. If you take a look at the previous messages (tweets?) you'll see that most of the important work is done, but some steps are still required to get everything ready for a seamless update (or install using the new LiveCD).

And I'm not going to get trapped by saying out loud that I think it will come in x hours/days/weeks  ;D

there are problems some people have experienced when updating to kde4 that were solved by creating a new user account and installing kde4-molecule theme

i am sure there is enough literature on the forum about most problems most people have encountered when switching to kde4 and solutions to your problem already exist. If you cant find them after searching, open a support thread in kde4 section and i am sure people will be more than happy to help you sort them out

Thanks for the update!!!   And the words of support!!!!!  I may try again this weekend to get it sorted out and I have no doubt that people here will help me to figure it out. But for me the problem is finding the time.

Thanks!!!!!!

I'm also having issues. Before I put my new power supply, cpu/motherboard, and graphics card in everything ran amazing with KDE4 on top of a minime install. But when I tried a fresh install after putting the new hardware in, I can't seem to get any wireless connection at all after the update. I am also watching the progress via the site, forums, and twitter. Hopefully when the new release comes out I can try again and have more success. I do love the distro and community. But for now i've had to go back to an old favorite starting with F. Their KDE4 system is actually somewhat nice at the moment.

I think the KDE4 ISO will be a reality in February  8)  my crystal sphere (hehe) just say so, unfortunately I can't see the stars  :P
