Help! Mplayer does not load!
« on: January 14, 2010, 10:45:22 AM »
Hello friends,

I am having trouble with mplayer. I installed mplayer, smplayer and kplayer. But mplayer does not load at all. I also installed mplayer gui. Then I tried to play some videos with smplayer and kplayer but an error occurs everytime and I cannot watch those videos. I also installed win32codecs. Still no success. I don't know why this is happenning. But I am really getting frustrated.

Please help me to solve this problem. I cannot watch any videos.

Thanks in advance.

What videos files did you play?
MediaInfo gives more info about your files

Hi Leiche,

Thanks for the reply. The fact is that I cannot play any video. Later I also tried xine and kaffeine but the fact is they cannot play mp4, mkv and avi files. The error says those files have unsupported codec mp4a (Mpeg4 AAC). I don't know where to get that codec. Can you give me a detailed procedure of packages that I need to install to watch mp4,mkv,avi,dvd etc videos with ease and with subtitles? I tried everything and I failed. Mplayer never loaded no matter how much I clicked its icon from menu.

Please help in this problem. Thanks in advance.

what video card do you have?  what driver is using?

are you on kde3 or another desktop?

are you using compiz or kde4 desktop effects?

have you updated your system completely?

about videos

"The error says those files have unsupported codec mp4a (Mpeg4 AAC). I don't know where to get that codec."

the win32 codecs should be enough to handle them, maybe the aac part could be a problem, have you tested vlc from synaptic?

calling form konsole mplayer should be written gmplayer to call the graphical version of mplayer but by writing just mplayer i had no response at all, no warning, nothing

i never used mplayer this way, maybe i need to write a route to a file or something

by writing gmplayer this is what i got

j@localhost ~]$ gmplayer
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
mplayer: could not connect to socket
mplayer: No such file or directory
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
sh: -c: line 0: syntax error near unexpected token `('
sh: -c: line 0: `perl /usr/share/themes/QtCurve/gtk-2.0/map_kde_icons.pl /usr/share/themes/QtCurve/gtk-2.0/icons4 /usr/share/icons/ 4 16 22 32 16 16 32 oxygencolors(v2.2) 0.69.2 > /home/j/.config/qtcurve/gtk-icons.6680 && mv /home/j/.config/qtcurve/gtk-icons.6680 /home/j/.config/qtcurve/gtk-icons'
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".

still the app is playing a 2 hour movie without any problem

mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libdirectfb-0.9.so.25: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

This error should go away if you install/reinstall the package libdirectfb0.9_25 (that's where libdirectfb-0.9.so.25 is located). It should be installed by default, but maybe something went wrong during some update or other.

I have both libdirectfb0.9_25 and libdirectfb1.4_0 installed on my box.
