Which MIRC alternative irc client to use?
« on: January 14, 2010, 08:42:15 AM »
Hello friends,

I want to download some mp3 and video files via irc. I used to do that with MIRC in windows xp. But I am new in linux and currently using pclos minime 2009. I don't know which irc client to use for file download. Is there any user friendly irc client for linux just like MIRC for windows? I recently installed xchat via synaptic but I cannot connect to: irc://irc.rizon.net/Taka. Somehow xchat does not connect to that network. I am so much at a loss.

Please help me solving this problem.

Thanks in advance

I hope whatever you download is legal.
For a simple IRC client you can try Chatzilla if you are using Firefox as your browser. It is an add-on for Firefox.

xchat is the one I've found to be most like mIRC. I also wrote an article on IRC for the PCLinuxOS Magazine ... September issue.

I have really become fond of Xchat - to the point I have converted some windows users to convert as well ;-P.

My 2 Cents, give Xchat a try while you are testing clients out.
