I used the 2009.1 livecd to repartition a 250 GB SATA drive in a new Toshiba L555D-S7930 laptop. I used the drive utility in PCC. I made a primary 4G swap (sda1), primary 20G / (sda2) and a 97G (100000MB) /home extended partition (sda5). I left the rest of the drive blank for future expansion. Formatted swap. Formatted / with Reiser 3.6. Tried to format /home with Reiser and immediately got a failure message. Tried again with same result. Then tried formatting with ext3. It took a long time, over 20 minutes, the drive constantly running, then a progress bar quickly went by and it formatted. I don't remember any filesystem taking that long in Linux to format. Does anyone have any idea why Reiser failed to format? Could it be something with the extended partition? I could easily delete it and create a new primary partition, then I'd have only one more possible primary partition left.
