Other OS's
« on: January 13, 2010, 11:05:32 PM »

This is one of those that I will fully understand if no one replies, simply because it is so trivial.

I have a compliment and a question.  I have three computer (a clone phenom running PCLinusOS, a Gateway GT5220 running XP with PCLinuxOS loaded behind it and an old Dell with nothing on it except a copy of PCLinuxOS).  I like to keep an eye out for what is new in the Linux world and will download LiveCD's and take a look.  That is the situation, now for the compliment, PCLinuxOS is the ONLY OS that will run on all three, always and without fail.

The question:  The most common error I see is that they, the other OS's, are not connecting to APIC.  However, even when I do a command line entry and turn APIC off, they will still not load the LiveCD.  Some, like Sabayon, will load up to the point of opening the Desktop and then reboot.  Others, like the latest Mepis will lock up just after it goes to Level 5.  PCLInuxOS just slides right on in, loads and runs with no problems whatsoever.    Do you have any idea what is killing the other OS's on the Gateway and Dell?  Everything runs on the clone.

Again, congratz on a great OS.

Thanks for easing my curiosity attack.

Startup options like NOSCSI VESA could do the trick, compare with the different options in the Grub startup menu's on the PCLos Live CD('s)

You know, when you have the best, it only makes you feel better to take a look at the competition and see how far short they fall.  Tried both sets of suggestions.  No go.  I won't bother you on this any more.  Thanks for indulging my curiosity.

But still, is linux and probably there is a way to run the live CD's and learn something down the road
I shall pass this way but once;
any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

Most of the problems I've had in the area is related to the video... ;) :)
