I have found a temporary solution, i think.
1. open synaptic
2. install "vlc"
3. install "nautilus", the gnome file manager and "nautilus-actions"
4. open a terminal and launch nautilus from there [user@localhost ~]$ nautilus)
5. insert an audio cd in any drive. Now you can browse the audio cd.
6. set vlc as the default player for audio cds (nautilus will ask).
I did that and now every time i insert an audio cd, to any of my two dvdrom drives, vlc starts playing automatically (no need to run nautilus again to do so).
