Repo after updating to kde4
« on: January 11, 2010, 05:06:15 PM »
At the risk of sounding stupid....again,  after upgrading to kde4,  should I keep synaptic set on the same repo  i.e. main extra nonfree kde4 gnome,
or can I go back to using any of the repos?  Do I need to change kde to kde4 on whatever repo I have checked?
Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you're right.

the repos are all the same, what you did was change the sections that you are going to use from each repo you try

what you should leave unchanged is the sections, the repos, you can change as much as you want but don't forget to reload after each repo change and, don't forget that only one repo must be enabled, two or more are a problem

Yes you will need to change kde to kde4 no matter what repo you choose.

If you are using KDE4 than all the repos should have kde4 not kde in the listing.  You will end up in a big mess if you are using KDE4 and try updating your system from a repository with KDE in the listing.  If you are using a KDE3 desktop there is no reason to have kde4 in the listing, nor should you.  Doing so it just a recipe for a big mess.
