Editing Meta Information on Video Files?
« on: January 10, 2010, 11:28:54 PM »
Is it possible to edit meta information on video files, in a manner similar to audio files (i.e. saving the track name, artist and album, etc. in the file information while keeping the filename simple)? I have several folders full of TV programs, in both RMVB and AVI format. Most are currently named with the episode number and title. Unfortunately the titles sometimes include characters that cannot be used in filenames, and the whole thing becomes a big mess after a while. I'd like to just rename them with numbers and put the title in the meta information, but none of them have meta info.

real media(rmvb) had his own utility for this, maybe the latest real player app or at least i found files with the information you describe

avi, never seen something similar, most dvd players limit to read the name of the file and media players only give you information about the file characteristics like the codecs, frames per second and audio quality, never mentions any other info

It would be, except that I don't know of any video file formats that include meta data.  In still images, it is only defined in the jpeg standard, as far as I know.  And in audio, only MP3 files, I believe (although that may not be the whole story).

Thanks for the link. XMP Manager looks interesting; too bad it's in Italian (I think).

The page opens in Google translate, so the actual page text is in English but the application itself (or at least the screenshot) is in Italian. I'm currently viewing it in Chrome on my (Windows) laptop, so maybe it's different in Firefox and/or when using Linux. I'll check it on my other system when I get home tonight.

Also, I don't see any links for source code on the page. Am I missing something?

It appears to be a recommendation for an Adobe product, as an example of how it could be done.

This procedure in Adobe Bridge is quite simple:

   1. Open Adobe Bridge.
   2. Browse to the desired file.
   3. Right Click on the file name or thumbnail and choose File Info…
   4. Fill in desired fields and Click OK.
