Hue HD Webcam

Just thought I'd pass this on.

My daughter has recently been given a new webcam for her Mac, sent from my son in Canada. It's a Hue HD Webcam as advertised here:

We used it today to talk to him over Skype. I was curious about it so I borrowed it  ;D and tried on my install of PCLinuxOS (using kernel 2.6.26.8.tex4)

You'll all be pleased to know that it worked as soon as I plugged it in. I tried it in wxcam, kopete and skype and all displayed the picture from it (kopete doesnt recognise my existing logitech webcam) although I haven't yet tried the inbuilt mic. The picture quality is superb. The cam can be connected either via a desktop base or directly into a usb port.

So if anyone is looking for a new webcam then they can check this one out.

Regards

Hi,
Did you get the built in Mic working?  I have one of these webcams and can get the mic to work but the sensitivity is low and kmix does not provide a mic boost slider for the USB 2.0 camera input.  I have to get so close to the camera to talk that people can only see my nose - not a pretty sight! I have tried using kamix instead but no difference.

Have a look at alsamixer in a terminal to see if there are any other adjustments you could make ....

Thanks guys,

alsamixer is the same as kmix - no boost available for the USB mic.

Guess I'll have to stic to using a headset for now.
