Problem Installing PCLinuxOS 2009.2 from CD to HD
« on: January 09, 2010, 09:03:07 PM »
I am getting the following error in  installing from CD to a hard drive:

An error occurred

mounting partition
UUID=6368746f-2074-616b-6f65-207575696400 in
directory /mnt/install failed

The error occurs whether I use drak to do the partition layout or a 3rd party utility (Paragon Partition Manager).

I am trying to use a customized layout that I've used countless times before with PCLinuxOS without a problem (other distros, too).

hda1 - 120MB - /boot - ext3 - (primary partition)
hda2 - 63GB - / - ext3 - (primary partition)

hda5 - 2GB - /tmp - ext2 - (logical partition)
hda6 - 2GB - swap - swap - (logical partition)
hda7 - 7.3GB - /var - ext3 - (logical partition)

The problem occurs if I use other filesystem types (ext4 or ext2).

Hardware differs widely, of course.  This is an Averatec laptop with pretty generic hardware.

Did you get an answer from somewhere?
I had the same problem, and I think (after 3 or 4 re-failed re-installs),
I have the depressing answer -- this version does not support ext4 install.
It will format a disk partition using ext4, but then fails with the above error.
No other indication anything is "wrong", nor could I find a note to that effect.
But there was a reference to this limitation in another posting.

YUK.

Just saw this.  The CD does not support ext4.  ext4 support was added after the CD was released.
