Driver for US15 Polsbo GMA500 video
« on: January 09, 2010, 09:29:11 PM »
I have an atom based system that uses a GMA500 Intel chip set.  I am looking for a video driver for it (other than the vesa driver).  I found that Mandriva 2010 seems to have an RPM for it.  Can it be safely installed on a PCLXDE 2009 system?  Is somebody working on a driver for Pclinuxos?  I know there has been a lot of aggravation about this amongst netbook users but so far I have only seen reports of the successful use of the Mandriva released driver.

it is not safe to install packages form mandriva

supposedly intel driver in pcc should work with this video card but i never hars a atom using a gma500, other versions but not this one

what model of netbook/desktop do you have?

afik, the intel video driver is part of kernel or xorg and both are about to be updated in pclinux

It is a single board computer.  It uses the US15 (Poulsbo) chipset and the video controller is part of the north bridge.  I think this chip set is used in some Dell minis but I am not sure.

I made a liveusb of the Xfce version of Mandriva 2010 and it did indeed compile a "psb" driver for the poulsbo video controller.  The Mandriva liveusb is very sluggish, has no persistance (as far as I can tell).  It is also contained in a hidden unknown partition on my usb stick.

I made a LXDE live usb and it was very acceptable with persistance and access to all files.  I just wasn't pleased with the performance of the vesa video driver.

The SBC has 2G of memory and I want to eventually make a system that runs from RAM and uses only solid state storage like an SD card.  I want some means of persisting changes as well.

I guess I will wait and see what shakes out.

the video card is not even intel, it is a modified version of another video processor  :-X
