[SOLVED]printers in kde3... not work all time in kde4
« on: January 09, 2010, 05:32:05 PM »
Hi to all,
I have a HP P1006 Laserjet and a HP Officejet 5610.
I also have a Canon ip3000.
These all worked on one machine with 2009.2 kde3.
With 2010 kde4 all printers are iffy. and mostly do not print out anything. Just long print queue's.
Indeed now the P1006 does not work any more after the OfficeJet 5610 is connected to the same machine.
Even disconnecting the OfficeJet  and rebooting, does not bring to life the P1006.
Indeed the HP-setup cannot find any printers at all.
This is not just a problem with PCLOS, I have Mandriva 2010 64 bit on the server and it does not like the HP printer either.
So guy's, what gives with HP printers?
All the systems are fully upgraded, there is nothing to bring down in PCLOS 2010 or Mandriva 2010 64

Well I had kind of such problem with my Xerox Docuprint 205A. It just didn't work anymore all of the sudden. In my case I had to delete the printer/reboot and re-install the printer and .... here she goes again! Tried that?

Yes, a couple of times.
even the hp-setup could not see any hp usb printers.
I installed and updated 2009.2 and lo, I can print to both hp -printers.
So I do not know what has happened as not even Mandriva 2010 works with them.

Hmm, seems we lost drivers for a few printers then (I find more trouble along the line scroogling around about these printers....) Not a good thing . HP is again deeper in bed with Mr. Gates/Balmer's growing empire, I read somewhere. That will make me, for one, cautious buying HP in the future. However drivers for these given printers exist so we can't blame them here I guess.

As for your Canon ip3000, you seems out of luck as well. Canon comes with many Linux drivers but .... your's isn't one of them as you can see here

Hi  to all,
WelL, the printers are now working under kde4.
The problem was a usb hub that decided to go funny at the same time as moving to kde4.
Although, the Canon printer will not print on DVD's properly!!
Other than that...All done, now
