VLC Dependency Issue
« on: January 08, 2010, 09:49:33 PM »
I recently did a fresh install and when going to add VLC I get the following error

Depends: libxcb-keysyms.so.0  but it is not installable

I've checked that I didn't mess anything up when changing KDE to KDE4. Has anyone else seen this? Every other time i've installed PCLOS and upgraded to KDE4, VLC installs just fine. I'm wondering if maybe it could be related to a specific repo? Anyone have any ideas?

Ok. I've tried installing VLC with a few different repo choices and i'm still not having any luck. Very weird. I guess at least i've got Dragon Player for now....

Yes, I see this dependency. I selected not to upgrade it, so vlc is still intact on my machine. I am using kde3.5 on this machine.

This should be in broken packages.

I just got the same error only there was a far larger list of missing dependencies;to wit:

vlc:
 Depends: vlc-plugin-mad
 Depends: vlc-plugin-a52
 Depends: vlc-plugin-ogg
 Depends: vlc-plugin-theora
 Depends: libvlccore.so.2
 Depends: libvlc.so.2
Depends: libxcb-keysyms.so.0  but it is not installable
---
I normally install VLC and the browser plugin because it handles video formats that I seem otherwise unable to view but I'm not app-centric.  I'm open to suggestions.  Thanks.

In the meantime, you can try Mplayer and Kaffeine. Mplayer handles RMVB and FLV better than Kaffeine. For the rest(AVI, WMV, MKV, OGG), Kaffeine does fine.
