xsane problems

A few days ago i reinstalled pclinux and my scanner worked ok (it still works in windows)  I did an upgrade and now xsane does not work. I get the message no devices available using the help i get the following info -
Possible reasons -
1 There is no device supported by sane.
2 Supported devices are busy
3 The permissions for the device file do not allow you to use it - try as root
4 The backend is not loaded by sane (man sane dll)
5 The backend is not configured correctly (man sane-backendname)
6 Possibly there is nore than one version of sane installed

I would be grateful if someone could help us on this.

I am also having the same problem.  My scanner worked flawlessly until I recently upgraded all my software.  Now it will not find my scanner.  Is there a way to help it find the scanner, or can I "down-grade" xsane back to an earlier edition?

both of you, could post the model of the scanner used?

also verify that all the updates have been applied and also what desktop are you using, kde3 or kde4

have you tested to reconfigure the scanner in pclinux control center/hardware/setup the scanner?

also in konsole, can you write     lsusb        and verify that your scanner is listed there?

also in konsole try this command         sane-find-scanner

what kernel are you using?

I installed ver 10 beta without a hitch but I'm a bit clueless & lost as to why SANE says it'll support my SCSI Umax scanner & the OS finds it but it no worky.
It's my first post here, & I've never run a scanner under Linux, so please be gentle.
