KDE MiniMe Desktop - not available>?
« on: January 04, 2010, 09:23:18 AM »
Ok, I admit I havent been plugged in, in a while, but I found something that this distro may be a very good solution for, but when I went looking for it, I couldnt find it anywhere.

was it pulled back for a specific issue? will it be available anytime soon?

has it been just renamed and I missed it?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

thanks

J

I am no expert by any means, but I believe they pulled MiniMe because it is based on KDE3, which I believe will cause conflicts when updating, because the repos are now mostly KDE4 apps. Like I said, I could be wrong, but froom what I've been reading, that seems to be why.

FYI, I have a copy of MiniMe 2009.1, and installed it on a laptop, then had problems after updating. I installed LXDE and love it !!

You can not use the current repos to update MiniMe2009  THEY WILL break your system!  if you must install MiniMe2009 you need to look at the kde3.pclosusers.com frozen repository.

Huh? I'm running a fully updated MiniME  2009 from the repos right now in Vbox. With that being said I would recommend switching to the frozen repo from now on.

Are you referring to KDE3.5 or to KDE4?

Did anyone answer the original question here?

What's up with MiniMe?

It says its unavailable at this time.
Is there anyway to get an old copy of it?

or will it be back soon?

I did attempt to answer the original question above. I also wrote what happened when I tried to install and update an older version.

I would wait for the KDE4 version to be released.

I'm confused here.... which is nothing new :)
I run MiniMe 2009 and currently have the repository set to
http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/pclinuxos/apt/
The system runs fine and it has updated from the above repository without problems up until Christmas week when I got the last updates.

The question is, should I change to the frozen repository and if yes, how?

I was going to ask if it's possible to upgrade to KDE 4xx and keep the look of MiniMe as it is but this thread has sort of answered that one  ;D

Yea, this is confusing.

I have a fully updated minime with kde4 installed and I am having no problems with it.

I think the problem is if you stay with the kde3 desktop that comes with the ISO.

This is the same problem as with the full PCLinuxOS ISO at the moment.

It comes with KDE3 but you have to upgrade it to KDE4 before you get stable support.

Somebody correct me on this if I am wrong.

EDIT: yall see how I do this?  The .iso is gone. That's the simple part that I missed. I am answering questions that haven't been asked! Dang.  ;D ;D
