oldude:
I'm still running KDE3, and will do so for the foreseeable future. I don't know for how long this will be possible, but until it is impossible, it's still my desktop of choice. Before KDE4 I tried all the desktop environments, then chose KDE, rejecting the rest, because KDE suited the way I work far better than the others. When KDE4 was released, it was obviously not even ready for testing, beyond proof of concept. While it is getting closer to being a real desktop environment, after three point releases, it's still far from finished, so I've rejected it also, and still choose KDE3. When it reaches a stage where I can, through configuration, reject all the unnecessary fluff, and effectively reproduce a KDE3 like environment, complete to the last detail, then KDE4 may become my desktop of choice. Until then KDE3 will remain on my desktop.
I really don't like being told that I have to leave kde3 behind, but I still have choice. Choice of rejects is not choice at all. At least not full choice. I choose to reject that concept, because that is my choice. I don't know if, or at what point, KDE4 will automatically replace KDE3 in PCLinuxOS. KDE4 will be the default desktop for a new installation, once the next 2010 .iso image is released, but I don't know what plans are ahead for the KDE3 section of the repos. All we can do is wait and see.
