cryptic connection failed
« on: January 01, 2010, 04:33:54 PM »
Hi,

I am running a few computers on the network at home linux/mac/windows with no problems. I am attempting to connect my computer downstairs and when I try to connect wireless it tells me "Connection Failed". I am using the LXDE distro.

If I disable hotplugging it says "Connection Failed. Failed to get a network address on interface wlan 0 (DHCP) protocol".

I have disabled my password and still the same thing. I know the wireless card is working because it detects all the networks around me just find. It is the RaLINK RT2561/RT61.

I have booted under the livecd under the root account (kind of don't want to wipe windows till I know the wireless works).

I have set my router to allow up to 50 DHCP connections and it is broadcasting in mixed mode (although I have tried just BG as well and still no luck).

Does anyone have any ideas what is going on?

Are there 45 cars parked in front of your home, with the engines running? ;D

Having never had any wireless, not a clue. There are others around here that should be able to actually help with this, once they see the thread. In the mean time, I didn't want you to feel alone and abandoned... especially not with such a good straight line just hanging there like bait. ;D ;D
