(SOLVED) LXDE Not Working
« on: December 27, 2009, 08:58:55 AM »
Hi All,
I tried all the Desktops and i now have KDE, GNOME, XFCE, Enlightment, LXDE. But lxde doesn't log in.
It says it has generated errors and will now exit.
File and folder not found. (that is the reason)

Oh, i installed everything from synaptic.

Thanks.
Tim

Tommylee567,
More details, please. Give your hardware specs. Look in Synaptic > File > History for the list of what was installed for LXDE; copy and paste the list here. Check /var/log/kdm.log for the log in failure message; copy and paste it here. If you're using another DM, like GDM, look for its log and post the relevant content.

Are you fully up-to-date?

Tommylee567,

do you mean this literally or that you installed all there is under the lxde section?

all you need to install is the task-lxde package - s it will sort out what apps are needed, if all apps are installed blindly it might cause issues (clashes etc in libs)

Sorry bro, i mentioned here that i installed only from Synaptic, not from sources.
I did install lxde panel and the task package, and it didn't log in, it was some messages like "file not found in...." folder.

BUT AFTER POSTING MY FIRST THREAD
I installed all from the lxde section, and now it came good. It logged OK! I don't know what happened earlier.

I'm fully upto date. Hardware specs below in the signature.
I will try it on the desktop pc (much faster C2D) and if i get errors i will post them here next week. ASAP when i get the net connection back.

Signing off.

Thanks!
Tim

Tommylee567,

Nothing in my post about installing from sources, I mention the task-lxde package in synaptic which will draw in all th eapps required for the environment ( infact each environment has a task- package)

great that you got things going though

Tommylee567,
So you were installing from testing, I see, and you have installed kernel-2.6.32.2-pclos5. Are you posting in Advanced Users section in the thread on that kernel?

I'm glad to see that you got the log in sorted out.

Sorry Neal, i installed but i was in the stable release at the time of installation.

ANNOUNCEMENT
I did install all the packages of LXDE, i didn't know the task package (late discovery) and just checked all the packages before posting here. Then now everything works.
NO problem with the new kernel. NOT kernel problem.

Solved!

Thanks all
