The snd_hda_intel has lots of posts in various forums. You may start reading here:
http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Main_PageI also had no sound, with a different model though, but in the end it was too simple to believe. If the master volume is less than 50% then there is 'no' sound. So I recommend starting with opening the mixer and setting the master, front and pcm sliders to their maximum position. Then open Config Your Desktop > Computer Administration > Multimedia. You should see output devices. I see e.g.
HDA Intel (STAC92xx Analog)
HDA Intel (STAC92xx Digital)
PulseAudio
And only the first one works on my laptop.
So select the ones you see one by one and choose Test.
If none of them produces sound then it might be that you have to specify options like a model type. I'm not sure where that should be done; either in /etc/modprobe.d/sound or in /etc/modprobe.conf or another file. I also no clue which model type will work.
