a relative easy copy/paste while in live lxde mode .. since the repo changes, most of the 2012 ISO's do not have an up to date repo listing..  so one copy's and then pastes it in /etc/apt/sources.file .. then runs synaptic to get a up to date repo ...  you could always look at what I am talking about .. check your /etc/apt/sources.list file ..it has all the new up to date repo's in it..

but this is neither here nor there.. unless you want to install lxde .

Here's what I posted in that regard:

Be sure to check the MD5SUM of the .iso before burning it to DVD, just to make sure it downloaded correctly.  You can get the MD5SUM of your downloaded file by:
 Open a terminal
Type 'cd ~/Downloads' (without the quotes) and hit Enter.  I'm assuming the file was saved here.
Type 'md5sum pclinuxos-kde-fullmonty-2013.04.iso' (assuming that the file you downloaded) and hit enter
The terminal should display the MD5SUM as a very large hex number.  Compare what you got with this:
257b94dd54440254a68e69c077f4ac31

If the file you downloaded is not this one, then the MD5SUM will be different as well.  You can look up the correct MD5SUM on the PCLinuxOS.com download page.

personally, I like the way you think, stream lined is good, i see two  LXDE's
which is the 32 bit?

[DIR] Parent Directory                                            -
[   ] PCLinuxOS-LXDE-2012.12.iso             13-Jan-2013 17:04  613M
[   ] PCLinuxOS-LXDE-2012.12.md5sum          13-Jan-2013 17:02   61
[   ] PCLinuxOS-LXDE-Mini-2012.12.iso        23-Nov-2012 01:27  457M
[   ] PCLinuxOS-LXDE-Mini-2012.12.md5sum     23-Nov-2012 01:28   66

I have to say something here.

Devra, you have said, in all of your previous posts that you wanted all the bells and whistles of EVERYTHING that was possible with the most complete, install of everything that is available like the "FullMonty" ..

And now, after all the trouble that you have had, you say "I like the way you think, stream lined is good"?

If you like "streamlined" how was the KDE version (any version, especially the FullMonty version) of PCLinuxOS, ever a good choice?

I told you way back when that LXDE would be a good choice.

OK, I'm done. I wish you all the luck but if you chose to use LXDE, You may hear from me some more. I know a thing or two about it. ;)

Most of my issues/trouble came from not knowing what I was doing here.  I'm MS strong and Linux weak.

To be sure, I had no and probably still have no idea of which distro will work best for me, as I've had no previous experience with any of them.  So as to why I chose this or that, well, I chose PCLinuxOS when I was on ebay because I believe it said, user friendly or something like that....heck I also bought a disk with puppy linux, mini linux, Slitaz Linux, core linux, slax linux...and a few others, but found them to be lacking.

I liked my PCLinuxOS, unfortunately it was too old and couldn't update properly in synaptic so it was decided after much posting, that I should just get another OS, and as I'd been lusting after texstar's newly released OS, I went for it, and since my computer will handle 64 bit, I went for it...well...

the saga continued, his OS wasn't compatible with my printer, a few hundred posts later I figured that it would be best for me to find an OS that was compatible, use that for printing needs, and just stay on texstar's os, since I'm getting familiar with it and have been updating faithfully....

so now we come to my finding an OS that will print for me, I thought, FM, why not?  see what the bells and whistles are...well, it worked, but it's full of stuff I'll never used, don't want, but it is cool, but not for me.

So I heard the words *streamlined*, ok, we went full out (FM), we went way cool (texstar), now I'll try Lxde, why not?  Maybe I won't like it, maybe I will, I'll never know until I try, after all, this is something I could never have done on MS.
I might even just burn copies of all the distro's, again, why not?

But really, this urge will pass, I have things to do, work to complete and dreams to fulfill and I'm just looking for a vehicle that help me get there...

I love linux, and I love all you guys!

As I told you before my HP 722c printer works with my install of the kde 32 bit PCLinuxOS.

I wouldn't give up just yet.  I see many cases in the forum where that printer worked fine.  (See Grandpa's post).  There's also this thread from Batzilla where he's had success:  http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,109581.msg937566.html#msg937566

In his case, he ditched the HP Device manager route and used CUPS.  I will admit his interface was the parallel port without a USB to parallel adapter, but that should be transparent.

Compare the lsmod from the 64bit livecd where you said it worked with the lsmod from the install where you say it doesn't and see if there is a difference in the kernel drivers that are loading.
