QuteCom Setup
« on: December 20, 2009, 06:22:37 AM »
I tried QuteCom from the repository in a bid to find the most versatile and convenient application for IM and VOIP, which should also include Video and Audio capability.

QuteCom used to be known as WengoPhone.

It installed and seems to configure OK, and does indeed test out my webcam.

Has anyone used this app?

I am having difficulty setting up the user account, so any pointers would be appreciated.
It 'looks' like what I am searching for ..... but so far I have failed to set it up for use.

I seem to be just going around in circles at the moment ....... so any help or even interest appreciated.

regards.

Any suggestions would be welcomed .......

I'm installing this package along with Gizmo even as I type. I've been using Skype for years, but I would prefer to use something Open Source and am looking for viable alternatives. Hopefully one of them will work out, if not now maybe in time. Can't help with setting up an account as I haven't even opened the program for the first time yet, but will post if I make any discoveries.

Please give your feedback ..... it is likely something obvious I am missing in my haste.

Glad to get a response from someone who is trying this app.

Thanks

Did you set the accounts up in QuteCom?

Yes, I did. Sometimes I can connect and talk but it doesn't happen too often. Usually is connecting a minute or two and after that I get 'connection error'.

Tried but could not register an account .....  probably due to network structure.
Ekiga has no problems registering the same account.

Seems QuteCom is just not as smart as Ekiga!   ;D

Yea... maybe... Thanks anyway! The outgoing sound quality is very bad when using Ekiga. This problem doesn't exist in QuteCom.

Could you maybe suggest any other software that I could use with my voip client?

Have you tried

Linphone

Twinkle

It has been a while since I tried them so I have no info for you.

It is not easy to find such apps in Synaptic ......  search for Voice, VOIP and Phone to see if there are others which might interest you.

I installed Linphone just now but cannot find it!!!!!   Weird!

Sorry I cannot be more help.

regards.

I installed both Twinkle and Linphone here and had for some reason to put entries in my menu for them both.
Linphone launches with  linphone-3  and twinkle with  twinkle

I could not (in brief test) get Linphone to work but Twinkle had no problems dealing with my set up.  I couldn't find the place to put my password for my account into Linphone    ;D

So for me presently it is Ekiga or Twinkle.

I failed on Qutecom and Linphone.
