<fixed>XFCE: Blank Desktop
« on: December 19, 2009, 09:27:58 PM »
Twice I downloaded XFCE from PCLOS and tried to run in virtual box. Both times it would boot fine and I could log-in but then it went to a blank desktop, no icon, no kicker, no right click menue, nothing.Did a little searching and found the Phoenix site and tried to download from there but the site kept going down. I would post this in their forum but the site is down again. So what's up with XFCE. Am I missing the obvious when trying to run the live CD.

The first two times I downloaded I used the XFCE link on The PCLOS home pages and those I were able to download no problem but since I was getting a blank, black, desktop I tried to down load from http://cozmodesigns.co.uk/phoenix/ and neither time I tried got beyond 4% before the connection died and later trying to go back I was unable to connect. Not a 404 but I don't remember the exact error message. Connection to http://cozmodesigns.co.uk/phoenix/ seems fine this morning.

What are the specs of the computer running Vbox and what are the specs of the Vbox setup?
Why?

I have never had any problem running other versions of PCLOS in VB. My computer is a AMD 3200 CPU with 1gig memory and a Nvidia card with 128 mb memory. 83 Gb home partition 53% used.

In VB Base memory and video memory are set to 128 mb and I do not have acceleration enabled.

But the two times I downloaded from the link on the PCLOS home page it did not hang up. Until this morning I was unsuccessful in downloading from the Phoenix site and that one did hang and have to be re started.

Ignoring the ISO I downloaded from the link on the Phoenix site the two I downloaded from the PCLOS link (are they the same) did exactly what the last one did. I get as far as the log in and am able to log in. Guest Guest correct? But then I just get a black screen. I was calling it a desktop but I believe I was in error because I don't see the usual list of components loading. It goes immediately to black screen.

My sincerest apologies to all for starting this thread. I accidentally setup my VB platform for it wrong. Sure wish there was a way to increase the font size of the Sun VB. (Hey, gotta blame someone.) With my setup the font is too small to see clearly. Just happened to get up out of my chair and got close enough to the monitor to see my error.
