I'm pretty sure you could also do this in kde3 / konqueror...   the problem I've had with the new version in dolphin is that when you switch tabs it does not always cd to the new directory automatically like it did in kde3 (In kde4 it seems to work for all tabs but the first one opened ???)  ..I'm sure it will be fixed in the next release.

Split folders is also more flexible in konqueror ( 3 & 4 )..  you can split into mor than just two panes; the one advantage dolphin has, it that each pane has its own URL bar so it easier to tell what directory each pane is showing.

Credit must go to the tuxmachines.org rss feed, that's where I found it.

Yep...the direct link doesn't work. It should be http://linuxtidbits.wordpress.com. Than type in the search box "sleep button in kde 4"

Great tips there Daveleh.

I'm having trouble with the Cover Switch though. I've managed it before in 10.2 but can't get it working in 2010.

I've tried all the settings in the Cover Switch itself but with no luck. Alt+tab switches the desktops OK but not in 3D. I have most of the other Window Management settings under All Effects on. Compiz is enabled.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Disable Compiz.  KDE 4 comes with it's own 3D desktop effects and having Compiz enabled interferes with KDE's desktop effects.  The author appears to be mistakenly referring to the cover switch as a Compiz effect, but it looks like KDE from the screenshot.  If you like Compiz better than KDE's 3D effects then disable KDE desktop effects and enable Compiz.  Point being, choose one or the other, but not both at the same time.

If I do that then I lose the ability to use the screen edges to change desktops - the only way I can change them is by clicking the desktop icons in the Taskbar. Alt-tab does nothing.

You can also configure the behavior of these things when using KDE4's effects..   Screen edges are in PC > "Configure your Desktop" (systemsettings) > Look and Feel > Desktop > Screen Edges; keyboard shortcuts can be configured from a few locations in KDE4's systemsettings GUI; but most easily found in the Desktop > Multiple Desktops section on the tab labeled "switching" .
