Unable to open an OpenOffice file [SOLVED]
« on: April 20, 2010, 09:49:32 AM »
I am running 2010 KDE base with LXDE desktop on my laptop and I ran getopenoffice. OpenOffice loads but I am unable to open a document, either by using the open icon or selecting open from the file menu or by pressing CTL+O, but I can create new documents. Only checked writer and calc so far. When I closedown OpenOffice soffice.bin process is left running at over 80% of cpu time and I have to kill this process. Not sure if these problems are linked.

Hi thorper,

I know there have been some issue's coz java wasn't enabled - you could try that;

Have you got the Java Runtime Environment selected in Tools > Options > OOo > Java ?

If you haven't, try selecting it and restarting

Note: I have Java version 1.6.0_20

PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

Sony Vaio SVE1513A4ESI Laptop, Intel Core i5, 2.6GHz, 6GB RAM, 750GB, 15.6" Intel HD Graphics 4000

I have now upgraded to the latest version of java runtime but the problem still exists. I have also logged out of LXDE and back to KDE and this problem doesn't exist and I can open documents with oo-write and oo-calc while using KDE.

The only change I have made to openoffice was to add a new locale. I added English (UK).

I installed the latest java upgrade, opened OpenOffice which gives an error message several times then activated the java option from Tools/Option. Closed OpenOffice and rebooted my computer. This cured this problem.
