1. Make sure you have a fully updated system
2. Launch the Synaptic Package Manager
3. Click on Search
4. Type in task-xfce
5. Right Click and mark to install (This will pull in everything you need)
6. Click Apply.
7. Log out of KDE
8. Click on Session
9. Select xfce4
10. Login to XFCE.

desktop environments available in pclinux repositories right now:

kde4
enlightment 17
gnome
xfce4
lxde
icewm(hmm!! win 95...)
fluxbox
windowmaker

there could be more but i don't remember and some doesn't have a task package to install them easily

i don't know if all of them are real desktops(could be just window decorations calling no taskbar, modifications maybe) but they exist and if you install them, you will find them in the login screen under the session button

please don't install all of them at once, it could be dangerous for your mental health!  ;D

i only had installed 4 at the same time but in reality i only use kde4 and gnome, gnome is my backup desktop but i only had used it 3 or 4 times the last year

I have done the "task-xfce" and the "task-lxde" both from kde3 and they both worked out of the box as advertised.

PCLinuxOS really rocks! Now it features more freedom to choose.

Two questions:

1. Will there be an easy way to uninstall KDE3.5 once it became unsupported? I am planning using XFCE or LXDE instead of KDE4 in some old computers. This way should allow me to migrate to a fully supported desktop environment without requiring a complete reinstall.

2.  What is the way to change to XFCE or LXDE as the default desktop environment at the login screen?

Thanks a lot.
