@kjpetrie

I think I like your solution the best, this would be the best until theres a kde4 port.

Scrooge is a good temporary alternative until Kmymoney is ported to KDE 4. Also might take a look at Money Manger Ex. It can import QIF and CVS files.

Just tried MoneyManagerEx,  and it says it cannot import QIF files yet.  Interestingly enough, there is a link under Help which checks for updates, and the version there is an rpm made for SUSE, but its the same version as the pclos one, 9.4.2.

So it's not an option.

OK, a question from a non-packager.  Why is it so difficult and time consuming to port an existing KDE 3.x application to KDE 4.x?  I somewhat understand the difficulty of say a MS derived application over to KDE.  But in this case the  item is KDE to KDE.

Looking forward to the education about to be received.

It's not a packaging issue. It's a programming issue. The application needs to be rewritten from the ground up to use different qt and KDE functions and header files.

PCLinuxOS is produced by a very small team around Texstar who do not have the time to work around the problems caused by KMyMoney, other distros have greater resources. However, the benefit is that the whole PCLinuxOS experience is tighter, more together and less buggy.

I'm in much the same position, KMyMoney is now the only KDE3 program I care about. I am using skrooge at present, and I can see why people might not like it. It's not instinctive, the transaction input interface means I have to concentrate really hard. Fortunately both programs can import and export in a format the other can use, not ideal, but usable. I certainly plan to be switching back to KMM as soon as it can be used with KDE4.

KMM aside though, I think that PCLinuxOS will be a more stable distro for just having one set of KDE libraries.
PCLinuxOS has no wealthy sponsors and can only survive with your donations! Don't wait it might be too late.

Does anyone know of any progress on the KMyMoney for KDE4?  I'm hoping to update to KDE4 as soon as it becomes standard on PCLOS.  But I have a feeling that PCLOS will have KDE 4 before KmyMoney is ready.  Can someone post if they are able to run Kmymoney in PCLOS with KDE4?

So, now that some time has passed - does the newer "KDE 4" PCLinuxOS support kMyMoney yet? I understand that there is some (beta?) version of kMyMoney that has been released for KDE4 (no new features, just programmed to be compatible with KDE 4);

I'm not interested in updating to KDE 4 until the apps I use are available for it.

HTH.:)

Thanks - I downloaded the package but for the life of me cannot get it installed - it appears I need something called 'cmake' and 'ccmake' on this PCLinuxOS installation. Anyway, I updated to KDE4 today - I would like to get this kMyMoney installed so I do not have to go into another distro just to use kMyMoney. Seems like the beta of kMyMoney would be in the repository - maybe it is in one that I do not have selected (?).

I don't see much hope for kmymoney being out very soon.   I'm looking at Homebank.  It appears to do everything I need for my checkbook at first look.  Unfortunately, version 4.1 (in the repos now) has a bug which does not allow changing some options to accept American conventions on the use of the comma and period in numbers.   When I import my qif file exported from kmymoney, amounts over $1000 are reduced by a factor of 1000.   $1,277.00 doesn't compute according to the default settings, and comes into homebank as $1.28.  The bug in 4.1 does not allow setting these conventions.

The repositories are all mirrors, if it isn't in one, the chances are it isn't in any of them.

As soon as Kmymoney will build against KDE 4.4 and QT 4.6 it will be added to the 2010 repo.
