At Wit's End...PCLinuxOS Phoenix 2009.4
« on: November 18, 2009, 12:01:24 PM »
I hope someone can help. I've tried twice to download and install the xfce version of this. First question is, according to our page I got it from, the file should be 541MB, but when I get it it's 567.5MB. The md5 sums match. When I installed it the first time, had all sorts of quirky behaviors including when I opened FF from the LiveCD there were 4 copies of the Recently Tagged and Bookmarked folders. Flash videos would play, but, they were jerky until about halfway through then the sound would stop and the video would go into high speed playback. The mousewheel won't scroll properly.

I am not a novice with computers. I am trying to install this into VirtualBox running on a Mac host. I have nine different flavors of Linux and two of Windows running just fine through VB but for the life of me I can't get PCLinux to run. Am I missing something?

Sorry.  My mistake.  I am seeding 7 pclos distros on LinuxTracker but not the xfce version.
I downloaded the XFCE version from the link on www.pclinuxos.com home page.

Ii wouldn't blame phoenix for a couple of the problems you pointed oput.
The cuadruplicated Recently Tagged and Bookmarked folders are an old bug which has been pointed out often, and the problem with falsh videos is probably due to, well, flash.
As for the mousewheel, ýou might probably get it working through modifications to xorg.conf.
All I'm saying is that the problems you listed do not seem to be attributable to a bad iso or anything like that, they may just be a sum of isolated bugs.

I would be concerned about the difference in .iso size though.  Specially since the Author of Phoenix is asking about where it was downloaded from.

From www.pclinuxos.com:
Release Date:  09-14-2009
Version: 2009.4
Size: 541 MB
MD5SUM: 22c535bc4f17e9f5b6a9600853717cb8

ok, well, far as flash goes, is odd it works in 9 other Linux virtual machines, 2 WIndows virtual machines, and of course, natively on my Mac. The scrollwheel is the same thing, it works fine on 11 other virtual machines. I really want PCLinux to work, one, because I like the way it looks, and two, just because I like when things work.

as far as the file size, is apparently something to do with a snow leopard quirk. The file does say while downloading it was 542 yet when it was done downloading, said 567. md5 checksum matched though.

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but isn't 567 the rounded amount of bits that are equal to 541 Mb?
