Nope, my guess is that there is a contract to equip PCLinuxOS laptops to researchers who follow turtles and penguins.

A noble task by all means

any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

You've got a million dollar contract to put PCLinuxOS on Dell netbooks ?

At one time I'd be admonished for even suggesting such a thing.     Open
Source you know.    Alright, I'll stop guessing.

 ;D

You all are thinking too small.  You gotta think big!!  ;D

For those of you who read the PCLinuxOS Magazine and I am sure that is every single member,   ;) you may remember I wrote an article for the January 2012 issue.  I told of my neighbor/friend who bought a new computer and intended to throw her old one in the dump.  Did I want to play with it? Of course I did and you can read the thrilling account in the magazine.  8)

For quite a while I have been telling my friend all about Linux and singing its praises. I have shown her my install, and she was interested but didn't really understand it.  I know the feeling about that.

Recently she bought a new laptop because her old one was going blinky blink. She took it to some $hop to have it evaluated and it would be more $$ to perhaps fix it.  She was going to do it and then let her husband have it.

It was at this point I made my bold and brilliant move!!!!  I suggested that maybe - perhaps - possibly - some of my Linux friends might have a look and see if it might be worth salvaging.  And if it looked OK we would put a Linux OS on it.

She did not know how anybody could evaluate the computer without having it. But I said it was possible.  She agreed and handed her laptop over to my care.  :o

So for over a week I worked day and night (and I do mean day and night) and I stripped Windows off of it and I did a million or more commands in the console) and I installed Minime on it.  I returned her computer to her yesterday and we connected to the internet, updated and added a few more things.  Hey it works......so far.  :P

So the wonderful thing that I feel I have done for PCLinuxOS and that everybody should aim to do at least once is

TA DA       I recruited a new user for our favorite distro.

Who would have ever thought that was possible?   :D It may not last more than a couple of days, but I did do the deed. Now I have a new problem as I am going to have to give her HELP.   :'(  Doing my best.

Don't you love how I keep saying....I did this and I did that.   ;D ;D ;D  You know very well that I had help with a laptop that was being very ornery and did not want to cooperate or let anything be installed on it.  >:(

And I am sure you know very well who helped me every step of the way   :-*  and he really deserves all the credit.

There is a 5th dimension, beyond that which is known to man.It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity, between science& superstition,& it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call PCLINUXOS!

This is exactly how I felt during the whole ordeal....dizzy.  I was on line with my own computer getting the directions and then bouncing around and twisting my neck over to the laptop trying to put in commands. Back and forth.  Back and forth.  I had never used a mouse on a laptop before.  So besides the problem of the install, I had to learn how to use that darn finger mouse.  I did everything about 5 times before getting the right thing.

Good work ms_meme !

And it was work!!!!!!!  ;D

Oh it happened alright. Will post picture of my extra gray hairs.

Congrats meme, I hope your friend enjoys her 'new' laptop  :D

And you will be the first to know if the 'new' laptop goes blinkity blink again.  ;)

I didn't doubt ms_meme ... not even for a moment ... if anyone can play the uke as well as ms_meme can, she can easily sway and convert users to PCLOS.

We are all very proud of you, ms_meme.

Yes, we are all VERY proud of you!!!

I knew she could do it too, with the wonderful aid of her best, most knowledgeable helper (Just18). I spent a few minutes in IRC with her while she was working on it, so I know she has done it!!!!

I was probably typing in CAPS SCREAMING to you meemaw.

Crow wanted proof of the deed.  What I think I will do is post a week's worth of IM's.   ;D  Pages and pages and pages!!!!!!!

On second thought maybe not.   :(   It would only prove how goofy just18 thinks I am.   :o
About every other line of the IM he was saying:  Where are you?  Why are you doing that? You didn't follow directions. Reread what I wrote.    :'(

I was so glad to get that laptop back to its owner.   :)
