OMG, I didn't realized that the implication is quite different in the UK. I had to look at it on Wiktionary to realize it also means to commit suicide. I was brought up to know it means to best oneself. I've been had.

Must admit that I never heard it used in the context in which you did. (although I did realise what you meant)
To "better oneself"  would be the usual phrase I guess.

All my parts are being held together with toothpicks, paperclips and safety pins.  So a bit of superglue is welcome.
I was curious about 'top' too. Found at least 25 or more English idioms with top.

But I had to think a bit about your situation. IMHO it has to do with the teeny tiny picture beside your name.  Folks just can't see how important you are.
Every neighborhood needs a good plumber and I for one am glad you are nearby.............well not too nearby.
