Great work, ms_meme!  Just saw this after getting back home, and could not have hoped for better news.  Linux advocacy is a thing with me, so I've got to say it - I am so proud of you!  Way to go!

Converting a friend to Linux
Was always on my mind
Bit by bit step by step
It really was a grind

You thought I was a fibbin'
A new user I did find
But now I'm here to repeat
What I did - just to remind

One thing I didn't tell her
Because she is so refined
I kept it very secret

This is my friend's laptop.  We had a 3 hour session the other day.  Time flies when you are having fun.  I got scolded when I came home for playing so long.   :(

I tried to take the picture with the PCLinuxOS logo, but somehow all the dust on the screen got in the way. (I dare anyone to say their screen is dustless.   :o  )



She has a cat Nikkie who seems very impressed with the new OS. We installed Minime and spent a lot of time practicing downloading from Synaptic. Of course I put the fear of Root in her right from the beginning.  ;)
I for sure wanted her to have Gimp and Inkscape and have referred her to MeeMaw's wonderful Gimp tutorials in the PCLinuxOS Magazine.  :D

We made a Folder for Nikkie and downloaded some kitty pictures for her. Then installed Gwenview and admired what we did.



Three months ago my friend fell and broke her ankle and is only now beginning to walk again. So she has spent a lot of time recently on the computer.  She is honestly happy with her 'other' installs on another computer and another laptop.  ;D

But when this laptop was diagnosed as 'sick', I thought it was a good time to get someone to nurse it back to health and put Linux on it.  So far so good.

My journey with Linux started four years ago and I still have far to go. I know it isn't easy and you do have to put in effort and time to make it work.  I just want my friend to have fun and enjoy the ups (and downs) that I have had and hopefully will have for many years to come.  :)

Have her down load the gimp 1st issue pdf. It will make good reading for her.

Crow, I honestly don't think I can tell her about the Forum.  I mean this friend thinks I am quiet and respectable.  She believes I am serious and proper.  Around her I am always reserve and upright. It could be a bit of a shock to her. She is my neighbor and it might just be best not to reveal that occasionally I sneak off to another Neighborhood.   ;D ;D 
May have to give a lot of thought before exposing myself.  ;)
