Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2, Movement 1 (Allegro maestoso):

Part 1:
Mahler: Symphony No. 2: Mov. 1 - Part 1 of 3

Part 2 (Embedding disabled, limit reached)
Part 3 (Embedding disabled, limit reached)

The music starts at around 1:30 min. - Lenny's a bit on the slow side, but sound and image quality are good. Must be from the 1970's ...  ;D

The human voice is an instrument, sometimes a marvelous one, proven by Veronika Dzhioeva, featuring the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Alim Shakhmametyev.
This is Sergej Rachmaninoff's Vocalise:
S. Rachmaninov - Vocalise / С. Рахманинов. Вокализ

Here in the City of Palmerston North, NZ, we are lucky to have two low power classical music stations that broadcast 24 hours per day in surround sound stereo FM. The Gramophone Room broadcasts a full recording of an opera 6 nights per week - different opera each night. Meanwhile, the other station Perfect Pitch has a program of light classics and musicals.

Here is the link to a local newspaper article, dated just over a year ago, in which the 10 years of non stop broadcasting is celebrated.

Where I live, I can receive both transmissions, using the back of my TV antenna for reception.

As far as I am aware, the service, provided by a Mr. John Ward, is unique in New Zealand. Certainly, there is a Radio New Zealand Concert service but it is not of the same quality as John's programme.

Just in case you are not as fortunate as Jim or me (who can receive via antenna a good classical music station as well, Bayern 4 Klassik), here are just a few good internet streaming stations (with ID's):

adagio.fm
1.fm All Otto's Classical
AVRO's classical streams
KUAT in Tucson, AZ

Let's get bombastic - have some Zemlinsky:

Zemlinsky: Lyric Symphony (1/6) - 1st Mov.

It takes some getting used to, but the 1st movement ("Ich bin friedlos") has grown on me over the last weeks. Now I can't get it off ...!  :D

tuxfriend,
Thanks for the station recommendations; I'll check them out. <Edit: The Dutch AVRO streams are very good. Thank you!>

Here's another classical radio station that streams over the Internet: WCPE, 89.7 FM, from the Research Triangle area of North Carolina:

http://www.theclassicalstation.org/internet.shtml

They have an Ogg Vorbis stream which I often listen to with VLC Media Player. There are also MP3, Windows Media, Real Audio and Quick Time streams available.

WCPE is an exclusively listener-supported station; they broadcast classical music 24/7. There's very little talk, except during their semiannual fund drives. (They are currently winding down their Spring fundraiser).

I just listened to NPR's "On Point with Tom Ashbrook" about "The Stirring Music of Mahler". Interesting broadcast! You can find it here. Now you know where Star Trek got the beginning of its theme music from (before "Earth, the final frontier") ...  :D

WOW ! An over one year old thread resurrected. I am surprised this didn't find it's way to the TZ during the purge wars. ::) ::) :D
There is a 5th dimension, beyond that which is known to man.It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity, between science& superstition,& it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call PCLINUXOS!
