Classical music...

hmm. I do not mind the music but the use of term "Classical" is an outdated, anti-cultural term which actually refers to the music commissioned and performed for the ruling classes of Old Europe. Most of the our ancestors were serfs or slaves who had no rights and no land. The term also expresses the ethnocentric view of dominant European culture in both Europe and the Western Hemisphere that is so prevalent today.

so... how is that for the opinion of an oakie redneck born and raised by Texans.

"You don't know me but you don't like me."

Gary

I can accept the term "Classical Music of Europe". Europe did not invent music, they did not invent most of the instruments, and they only perfected a limited highly structure of notes and chords.

I've always had the feeling "classical" refers to as classes at school or to a class in quality.
By the way I prefer the word symphonic music.

Vorteks, yes I like that term too. And it is said to say that the symphonies are disappearing as are the orchestras as well. When I watch older movies I am just stunned by the music. Now the films just borrow from the radio. I do love all forms of music, both the politically correct forms as well as the rough stuff.

Smetana: Vltava. Not the best sound quality but I can't fault the musicians playing.

On his deathbed, Beethoven is said to have looked into some of the younger man's works and exclaimed, "Truly, the spark of divine genius resides in this Schubert!"
