[Solved] Live Cd failure to boot on HP NC6320 laptop
« on: October 29, 2009, 06:52:27 PM »
hello
I am fairly new to laptops.
However I thought it would be good to try the latest Xfce live CD
When trying to load the CD it partialy completes the installation and then stops with the following message
Error: No suitable media for the live CD content found.
Workaround: Copy the content of the live CD from your boot device to an IDE/Sata disk.
Dropping you to a limited shell.
My question is how do you do that and where do you copy the CD content to and then how do you use it???
i currently have Windows XP and Antix installed as a duel boot system.
Any suggestions greatfully recieved
Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.
ps  I have run the Live CD on a Desk top MC and it booted correctly therefore i believe the CD is not corrupt. The MD5 checks out correctly.

Hello tasfield  - Welcome to the forum!
Since the sun is presently high overhead on this side of the planet and we are wide awake here - let me jump in with a few suggestions!  :D

I'm guessing you are booting a LiveCD session (not actually installing it just yet?)
At the boot menu - try> press F3 > type in cheat code> edd=off  and press enter
see how you go....there are a few other cheat codes mentioned on the forum if you search...else just ask

Hi Steve
Thanks for the reply
My Boot menu is slightly different and F6 gives access to the  CD there are some cheat codes available under another button but you cannot change them only use the ones available.
However I donot think it is to do with the CD drive as I can boot live CDs of two other diatributions OK
So seems to be relevant only to Phoenix

tasfield,
I was referring to the Linux boot menu that you see after the liveCD boots - not the motherboard bios/splash device boot options!

I had the same problem with my pclos livecds, yes I've tried more. The first one I thought it was a bad burn so I made a new one with the kde version 3. Same thing. Then I chose a different boot option, something about probing sata or scsi(don't remember but it was one of the two), and it started up. Install went fine.

Assuming that you have more boots options try one of the others.

Hi Seaoffear and Steve
Thanks for your helpful suggestions
The answer was to boot on the option   LiveCD_Sata_probe.  that worked fine.  Never thought to do that.
Many thanks again
