button for "start menu" messed up after update
« on: October 25, 2009, 07:28:57 AM »
hello, first of all i want to mention that i don't know much about unix like environments. so please have patience ;)
i want to say that i really like this phoenix release :) it looks really good!!!
i tried opengeu, vectorlinux and sam linux before, but i didn't work much under linux.
installation and hardware detection works fine, no problems with that. but when i start synaptic and update all installed packages, the button (for start menu) is messed up. is there a way to fix it???? i have uploaded a picture where you can see what i mean. anything else works fine so far.

HERE IS THE PICTURE

First of all, welcome home to PCLinuxOS, Sonic! Jump on in here, and have some fun.

Now to your problem ... I also have Phoenix 2009.4 installed on one of my laptops. The very same problem has occurred with my installation of Phoenix. While it doesn't put it back to the way it was, one thing you can do is to right click on the button, choose "Properties," and delete the line that says "Phoenix" in the dialog box that pops up. This way, you'll get the little rat icon back, without the words. For me, I'd rather look at the icon than the partial display of the word Phoenix.

I have the same issue, plus after updates, the nice black window decoration went away and I can't seem to get it back. also, the last upgrades caused me to end up in a screen with two what look like terminal programs, and I have to type exit to get to my desktop. I really like PCLinuxOS but, sure can be a pain  ;D

Had the same problem with the "Phoenix" cut off. Replaced the default mouse with the PC logo. Its a PCLOS distribution after all!   ;D

I finally got the theme right with white panels and blue context menu borders. Much more pleasant to look at than that ugly black. No one should use that to make a desktop. Its just too hard to see everything. I'm quite happy now.

NormanF,

We are glad that you have found a theme that makes YOU happy. Personally, I LOVE the dark theme that comes with Phoenix 2009.4.

Linux is all about choice. If you don't like something, change it. Isn't it great that Linux allows us to coexist, each of us with our likes and dislikes.

Does any one know how to fix a damaged widget so Phoenix can appear in full alongside the start button icon?
