Laptop sound not working after fresh Phoenix install
« on: October 22, 2009, 03:06:18 PM »
Congrats to Sproggy for a great distro! I dumped my Zen Mini install due to Phoenix's lighter weight RAM requirements because this laptop is only 512MB. Not a big fan of the dark theme so I'll be changing that soon.

My problem is the sound not working. I click the Volume icon and the popup window in the middle of the screen reads:

"GStreamer was unable to detect any sound devices. Some sound system specific GStreamer packages may be missing. It may also be a permissions problem"

Okay what do I have to download on this fresh install to get the sound going? Laptop is an eMachines M5312 and the volume worked under PCLOS2007 and Gnome Zen Mini.

Well it's a minor issue since I'm going back to Zen Mini. Your distro is great but sound worked out of the box with PCLOS2007 and Zen Mini.
Besides, Zen's color scheme is much easier on the eyes. Here in Phoenix, Firefox's typing fields are very dark gray and difficult to see. I don't have time to futz around with settings so for me it's just easier to go back Zen Mini.

I'll be happy to checkout Phoenix again with the new kernel and packages when it's released. And please include a more traditional theme/color scheme for users to choose from.

It's a great distro. Just needs some fine tuning.
