Abiword, Times New Roman font squished on one computer only.
« on: October 16, 2009, 05:12:44 AM »
Standard installation of abiword. On one computer with separate installs of Kde3 and kde4 typing with the default font Times New Roman squashes the text. Pic attached shows opening abiword and typing 'abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz'.

Changing font starts to write normally. Selecting the jumbled text and changing font fixes the symptom. Selecting text with any other font and changing to TNR squashes it again.

Exact config of kde3 on different computer is displaying just fine. Graphics card?

GPU is nvidia fx-5200. I only use the standard video driver. Whatcha reckon?

Hold the phone! I just found this thread and will try the remedy:

I did a search. Just didn't dig deep enough.  :-[

Edit: Yep. Fixed it. Should I delete this thread or leave it?

Heh.  Don't tell the missus - she keeps a shotgun loaded with slugs ready in case of Zombie Apocalypse... (clever girl, the missus.)

Seriously, no sweat - I was just looking for an answer to this problem myself and found this info was very helpful, so thanks for putting it up.

Merry Christmas (or Whichever Winter Solstice Holiday/s You Might Celebrate),
