I don't think you are running KDE 4.4.x but I am not smart enough to tell you which one you are running (yet) ;D
From what I have found I think you are funning XFCE

You are likely running the PCLOS 2010 basic kernel stuff but your Desktop Environment, the thing you see, the Graphics Interface is not KDE in my opinion.

Other desktop environments, graphiscs presentation options are GNOME, LXDE, XFCE etc ( etc = means I am not sure what others actually are about)   ;D

What does your basic startup screen look like?

There's a simple command telling you your system specs and DE you are running but I don't remember which.
So I'm uploading an image. See up there "KDE 4".

I'll leave now forum for several hours. Thanks.

I really struggle to understand as your K-menu or PC-menu looks like mine and yet I can not reproduce your previous drop down menu in firefox, but have no fear eventually this problem will be found out.   ;D

Since you have been into the "spanner and socket driver" icon do following:

1.. Go:  Configure your Desktop > Help > About KDE > click on "About KDE"

2.. A nice big Window opens and you see clearly something like Platform Version 4.4.4 (KDE 4.4.4) this is what shows for my system

3.. To be absolutely sure, see big window in attached picture. The picture shows also two smaller windows.

4.. In the top menu part of the About KDE window right click and you see the first of the small windows.

5.. Check it is like mine or "shoot it" and attach next post.

6.. In this window move down to Advanced and when you click the second small window opens.

7.. Check again it shows the same as mine if not "shoot it" too and attach.

Remember total attachment is 2 only pictures and combined only 250kB. The exercise is the same as what you have already done for Firefox.

Now I must go and back up my own system.   ;D

Ok, so I'm using kde 4.4.5.

But remember, it is not just firefox. Gimp, dolphin, etc, still have the same drop down menus with no advanced.

Update:

I switched off compiz, and I get the advanced menu.

So it looks like Compiz messes up a couple things on my system, the above, and also ctr-alt-escape skull doesn't appear.

Compiz is the kde 3d effects, spinning cube, wobbly windows, etc. I like it solely for the rapid switch between open windows feature of the mouse.

Anyway here is my shot with compiz off. I am using kde 4.4.5

I switched off compiz, and I get the advanced menu.

Not being sure why but I mentioned it too:
I'm with 3d-effects.
That means Compiz.

Well to be more precise, I go into hardware, graphics, and switch off the 3d effects. I figger it just turns off compiz.

Out of curiosity why are you running compiz?

Have you tried nerful1 's solution and turned off compiz   :)

When you mentioned
Quote
I'm with 3d-effects.
To me this just indicated you were using a graphics card with 3D acceleration

Don't torture us any longer, it was bad enough to get this far.   ;D ;D

I am very sorry to suspend you, guys. ;D

Yes, disabling Compiz gives me the options you were talking about!

My daughter likes Compiz 3-d effects but as I see she doesn't use them, me too. I'll talk to her...

Thank you every body, thread [Solved] one more time;)

Does that mean once you set up your desktops, re-enabling compiz(or 3d) will mess it up, or will they stay put?
