Yup - that's how it was set up - region + 8 secs for screengrab.

But once KSnapshot is activated it won't "release" itself and nothing will stop the app. Once the region is marked it doesn't do anything - Enter doesn't work, neither does Esc. In fact Ctrl + Esc doesn't work either so it can't be "killed"

The only way I've been able to "release" back to the system is to Crtl + Alt + Backspace to stop the session.

Having KSnapshot throw a wobbler AND the titlebar r/click not giving the Advanced > Special Application Settings is uber weird indeed.

Did you double click inside the selected region? That's what takes the snapshot and releases the desktop.

Every time I click on a link pointing to a particular topic in pclinuxos.com, to say like posted above, I'm taken to the Main page.
E.g. for me this link works equally to http://www.pclinuxos.com/

The link quoted was right before some relocation of Forum as I understand, this caused slight change in the url (address)

If you are using the 2009 release, the thread says the Advanced entries are in the Window menu. Did you look there?

Can you make a screen cut of what you see and attach to post?  You may need to resize to keep it under 250kB
I would love to see what is happening   ;D

Most interesting, I have repeated your Firefox action on my system and taken a snap shot at the desktop with your pic included in background, see attached

To me it looks like we have two different "something" here, both from Firefox. My effort of drop down menu selection is on the left nerdful1 pict of same is on the right,  but as the term unmaximize and the name workspace is used, I am guessing that workspace may be desktop but there is something not quite right. The whole menu to me looks like coming from some other application.

Tell a bit more about your system? Has it always done this or is it recently  ???  Do you have other Desktop Environments Installed or previously tested such: Like Gnome, LXDE etc

(Not 2009 LXDE I have just checked)

I have to say I have not update for a few weeks as I have not yet made a backup. Perhaps the above could be the 2010.7?

Who knows something about differences between DEs

Hmmmm, well I started up XFCE with some trepidation thinking about the loss the install cost me. I am now using rudimentary XFCE and have made a snapshot using Shutter  I have used Firefox again.

To me there is some resemblance in wording  and graphic presentation but not completely.  This XFCE has not been updated and I think not likely either for a long time but it seems to work.

What is a dead easy way to ask people what their DE is?  Via konsole of something but definitely not to be conveyed as werbose description. You know what I mean.   ;D

;D ;D I should have known better ! Your humor is refreshing and much appreciated when recalcitrant bits fly around the ears and won't do as I want.

Is there a command in konsole you would use? The answer to which could be copied to Forum   ;D

Thanks for fixing.

What desktop environment exactly are you running. KDE 4.4.x

What is linuxdc++
Using KDE 4.4. ... on PCLOS 2010.
linuxdc++ is a peer to peer file sharing program. I'd like it running constantly for sharing to people ;)

I tried several ways to make a program window start in a particular desktop (workspace) with no success.

Here's what I tried:
Attached you see (thanks to O-P) the right-click on the top bar of FireFox. I suppose "Only on This Workspace" is the option I am looking for. It is checked by default on all windows but doesn't work as I suppose it to do.
Every time a program starts by manual or by auto start it starts in the present desktop.  I start the program(s) in different v/desktops and close them there - the next start is always in the current. (I am able to send them manually to every place)

Configure your desktop-->Look & Feel-->Desktop-->Multiple Desktops-->(x Different activity for each desktop) doesn't change things. Combining with Autostart (login/logout) gives the same.

"Save session" with programs opened at different v/desktops launches them after login all in the current (first)  desktop.

Changing in /home/unclev/.kde4/share/config/kwinrc "RollOverDesktops=" from true to false doesn't change this behaviour.

That's about desktops.

Tried another way in my mom's account - right-click on the windows icon on the bottom panel-->Advanced-->Keep below others (in order she would face FireFox window right opened immediately after login), than "Save Session" - no, it doesn't remember it and linuxdc++ pops over FF. Now I don't run it on that account.

Thread [Solved], huh? ;D  ;)
