Considered Phoenix Desktop Package for Standard PCLOS Repos?
« on: October 13, 2009, 02:03:12 PM »
Hey Sproggy and others who have helped with Phoenix,

First off, nice work on Phoenix.  I was just curious if any thought had gone to creating an rpm for installing your desktop on a standard install to have your nice Phoenix XFCE desktop as an alternative at login time vs having to have a separate partition to enjoy.

Apologies if this is a dead horse topic!

I assumed this package was the vanilla XFCE desktop and that Sproggy's theme and other changes were only available through the new ISO.

If this is not the case, consider my question retracted.

Hmm, good point.  Not sure if it pulls the theme in or not, haven't tried it.

I can verify that the task "thingy" loads in a plain vanilla XFCE environment ... at least it did when I installed it about a month ago.

I installed it last night and was pleased to see that a little work had been done to make it more PCLinuxOS like in the taskbar setup, and wallpaper...so it was a little different than what I expected in regards to vanilla XFCE, but a 3 minute stab at picking a different theme turned up fruitless for picking a Phoenix theme (or any other theme really, I don't know XFCE very well).

So if it would be as simple as making a Phoenix theme package, that would be cool.  Just another way for people to enjoy your Phoenix handy work and to consider full time XFCE desktop as an alternative without doing another install.

Thanks for your reply and your hard work Sproggy,

I want to take a stab at learning to package as well.  Starting with an entire custom desktop package would be a good way to ensure discouragement, failure, and despair (at least for me), so I think I will start with something simple (like my favorite MUD client tt++).

Take care and good luck with the RL workload.
