XFCE weird behaviour
« on: October 09, 2009, 09:40:26 PM »
Hi all,

I've installed XFCE 2009.4 with all upgrades. I first noticed differences between the root and general user accounts when I wanted to change the colour scheme. The laptop monitor isn't great, so the default theme is hard to read. Anyway, I can make changes as root and all items selected are changed. If I go into my general user account and make the same selections, the same changes do not take place. Specifically, dialogue buttons do not change shades properly, so they become virtually unreadable. Ditto the menu items. The changes just aren't completed as they were when logged in as root.

I've also noticed that the "Install Phoenix" desktop icon is present in my general account and another general account, but not the root (I would not expect the icon to be present at all as I have already installed Phoenix). There are some other odd behaviours going on, but these are minor. I haven't made any changes to fundamental settings, I've just been fiddling with the look etc.

While I'm at it, the system doesn't shut down properly either. It goes through the usual process and then says halting system and just sits there. I need to physically turn off the PC. Not a huge issue, but it used to work with PCLOS 2009.1

Should I re-format and start again? I haven't really set anything up as I've just moved over from PCLOS 2009.1 with KDE 3.5.

Thanks,

Peter

If these are minor issues for you, I would not start over. PCLOS is transitioning all of the packages to a new base. This is working very well, but there are a couple of glitches. You might be experiencing one. If so, then as the problem packages present themselves, they will get fixed and you can just keep on enjoying PCLinuxOS.
