Black on Black--- Is there an alternative? [solved]
« on: October 06, 2009, 10:26:02 PM »
Xfce on Dell Optiplex GX110 seems quite fast (even with only 256MegRAM) however, the black on black in OpenOffice and Firefox makes it very difficult to read; is there an alternative color scheme available??  Your help would be much appreciated.

Hi Sproggy,

stupid question time; how do I install the theme? I've looked around XFCE but I can't find a "theme installer." I can get various bits going, but I can't see how to get the whole theme going...

thanks,

Peter

Hi,

To finish configuration, you may want to go to the general menu at "Parameters>appearance", for the icons, window borders etc... and for the background, a right clic in an empty place on the desktop will lead you to "Desktop parameters" menu.

Hi Melodie,

thanks for that. I had done that already, but I'm coming from a KDE background, so
I was expecting a general "install theme" type option, which obviously isn't the case. Also, some of the themes I've downloaded don't all have the same components, so they aren't all listed under the various headings once I do unzip to /usr/share/themes.

Being new to the game, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious, it wouldn't be the first time....

thanks again,

Peter

Ha ha ha. Had to laugh. It is strange doing thing the hard way isnt it? I know KDE spoils me rotten. I liked phoenix but the darkness (while it looks cool) played havoc on my crappy ole eyes. Bookmarked this thread until I can get around to giving phoenix the spin it deserves. (with a blue theme)  :P   ;D

Hi Katie ....

you can down load additional themes from synaptic .... using gnome and xfce themes ... you can also goto www.xfcr-look.org ... and download gtk themes there .... just extract to /usr/share/themes

Kori

Thanks for the response, Sproggy-- I got busy with something else and forgot to get back to you.  Also have appreciated the postes of phains, melodie, & F.Luent- as that helped me feel it was "just my eyes".
