Download flash video
« on: September 23, 2009, 09:06:44 AM »
Trying to download flash video that is streaming from a small website, not anything like youtube, etc.

Tried downloading with downloadhelper (which usually is the one I use for other sites), flash video resources downloader, flash video downloader, ant toolbar - all add-ons for firefox.  None of them worked.

Other than recording the desktop in real time (by the way, which program does this again?), is there another flash video download program that you know that does a good job?

I read somewhere about even looking in a temp file for a flv file while it was playing and didn't see that either.

Suggestions?

Some sites do not and will not let you download their video files. They are just there for viewing.

Yes, I understand that...

This is a class I am taking and paid for.  I would like to be able to review their archives at my leisure.

If there isn't a program that downloads, what is the program that will allow me to record my desktop activities?

You could save links to your desktop of the sites.

Take snap shots of desktop during different operations and save to desktop.

When you think you have your class project done.

Click my computer and in /home/what ever name copy desktop to CD, DVD, or usb thumb drive.

It can then be run on a computer at school and clicking the different items on the desktop should open up and show your work.

If you can view it in Konqueror the file should be saved in ~/tmp ...... you should be able to notice it as Konq is downloading it.
The file will not have an extension just a bunch of letters/numbers as name usually.
Save it out of /tmp before you close Konq and rename it to whatevername.flv

It should then be viewable in VLC or other player.

no, probably are files on realplayer format, can you open the video with vlc and try to convert it or record it with that app?

Well, I have the same problem as the thread starter.
Tried to search synaptic for the proper software for recording a streaming Video/audio file, but without success.
I can record/download flash files with FlashGot via Firefox but this doesn't help with streaming media.

Here is the link for the website http://www.myvideo.ge/?act=dvr&chan=gpb&seekTime=19-02-2010%2022:22

Any ideas or hints will be appreciated.

P.S. I guess, it would be fair if someone corrects the thread title, adding there word "Streaming".

Fujitsu 120GB 5400RPM SATA

Thanks Texstar for PCLinuxOS!

That link went nowhere for me .....  seems to be timed or something .....

IIUC you want to be able to record a streamed media  ....

One of the better applications for such things is VLC.
It will even transcode the media on the fly if you wish.
It will record the stream to a local file.

If you enable Advanced Controls under View you should have the option of a Record button.

regards.

If it was the correct site that came to me, it was a university site.

Most of them don't let you download unless you are a registered student or faculty.

Thanks for your kind response!

1. The link is not timed out, it works, but there might be access restriction for some locations or something.
2. I have no idea what "IIUC" is and research (Synaptic&Google) gave me nothing.
3. VLC is a great soft, I tried it before posting here and it doesn't to the job (record streaming from the given link) I need for now.
