I am not certain which particular portion of the forum is appropriate for this posting, so please move it if you see fit to do so.

The latest version of OpenOffice (3.1.1) not only includes many fixes to problems within release 3.0, but it also is touted to better handle file interaction with Microsoft Office 2007 formats. Is there any move afoot to soon update PCLOS for the latest OpenOffice release??

This belongs in " Package suggest "

It's right down on the main forum page

and yes, it will be updated in due time

OpenOffice 3.1.1 is already available. Open Synaptic, press reload to get updated file list. Install getopenoffice. Run getopenoffice from the menu and follow the prompts.

Thank you both for the responses.

Xena - Noted.   Would you mind moving this thread to the Package suggest Forum?

Texstar, I did not dream that you would be the one responding to my request. Thank you for taking the time to do so. When I did as you suggested, everything went like clockwork until I got to "Run getopenoffice from the menu and follow the prompts." When I selected getopenoffice from the menu, nothing happened. I tried again, nothing. I logged out of X and back in, nothing. I rebooted and ran again, nothing. I then tried uninstalling OpenOffice version 3.0 thinking that it might need to be uninstalled for getopenoffice to work. Not only did that not fix the problem, now 3.0 is no longer available to me from the repos.

I apologize for my lack of understanding. If you can point out what I am doing incorrectly, I would be much grateful. If I cannot get 3.1.1, I can continue to live with that. What I really need most is to at least get 3.0 back.

I would also like to upgrade but when I run getopenoffice on my fully updated PCLOS 2009 I get:

Quote
[martin@fingers ~]$ getopenoffice

I am using the HEANET repository which includes version 1.1-1pclos2009 of getopenoffice

Texstar, I apologize for being so dense. I have STF and found THIS thread. It seems to be on target. I performed the "kdesu" instructions in konsole and seem to be getting somewhere (sizeable downloads of openoffice 3.1.1 are complete and are installing). If this does not provide joy, I will re-post. Otherwise, assume that I have had the necessary epiphany.

Thanks, again, for the help.

One last post for anyone else wishing to upgrade to the latest OpenOffice version and finding that the getopenoffice script available in the repos does not work in a window interface.

I followed the "kdesu" suggestions as found in the thread-link in my previous posting and found that it solved the problem. My OpenOffice is installed and working well.

Thanks Texstar and Pinoc.
