Key combo for switching desktops?
« on: September 21, 2009, 07:12:45 AM »
On kde3 there was a way to switch desktops using a key combination. Ctrl+Alt+Left/Right.

Is there something similar in kde4? Is there somewhere where I can set this up and I cant find it? Has it not been brought into the features yet?

Thanks.

Hi Kolosus, That ones been bugging me too.

I'm not at my PCLOS machine right now, but googling "kde4 keyboard desktop switching" gave me this as a result...

Start the "Control Center" and go to "Regional & Accessibility" |
> "Keyboard Shortcuts" and enter the "Shortcut Sequences" pane and set
> some custom keys for desktop switching.

I'll try and sus it out when I get home.

Okay,  I can see that solution didn't work.  :-(

What I have found is...

Ctrl + F1 = desktop1
Ctrl + F2 = desktop2
Ctrl + F3 = desktop3
Ctrl + F4 = desktop4

It's a little different than Compiz switching, but it works.

Sorry for the unsubstantiated wrong answer.

This also works for 3.5.10

These are the shortcuts I'm using in kde4 ! With Ctrl+Alt+Down/Up to switch to lower/upper desktop (as I'm using the *grid* view). Also Ctrl+Shift+Down shows me the grid, and Ctrl+Shift+Up is for the "Expose" function. Very handy.

Did you set it up in some way? I updated to kde4 and the key combos are not working for me.

Yes I set it up, select...

-> control center
-> keyboard and mouse
-> global keyboard shortcuts
-> in KDE component -> KWin

...and you'll get all you need.
