Epson Perfection 3170 Photo is not correctly recognized.
« on: September 01, 2009, 08:15:05 PM »
I am trying to install an Epson Perfection 3170 Photo Scanner and I am not getting very far....

Scanner shows up under lsusb as
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 04b8:0116 Seiko Epson Corp. Perfection 3170 (GT-9400)

I go to hardware and then setup scanner, and it says:

EPSON Scanner is not in the scanner database, configure it manually?

I answer Yes

Go to the EPSON section, and the Perfection 3170 PHOTO is there, so I choose that one, then click OK.

It then says:

Your EPSON Perfection 3170 PHOTO has been configured. You may now scan documents using "XSane" or Kooka" from Multimedia/Graphics in the applications menu.

I click ok, and it goes back to the scanner setup menu and says:

There are no scanners found which are available on your system.

Search for new scanners
Add a scanner manually
Scanner Sharing
Quit

I quit and try XSane, and it does not recognize the scanner.

Go back to hardware, and it acts like it never setup the scanner, goes back through the loop again..

I also tried the GT-9400UF Scanner, same problem.

It acts like it installs, but never saves the settings.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Had exactly the same problem with the 3170 Photo.
Solved the problem by first removing sane-backends-iscan and then installing
iscan-2.10.0-1.c2.i386.rpm  and iscan-plugin-gt-9400-1.0.0-1.c2.i386.rpm.
Google for iscan epkowa to find the relevant site.
